I was diagnosed with marfans at 4, and had sugery on my aeortic and mitral vavles when I was 12. I'm just wondering if anyone has ever given birth with marfans, if they could share if it was a complete nightmare, and what steps were taken, if dissection on the aeorta was already done. Thanks this would be a big help!...

Hi there,

I am a 33 year old that was diagnosed with Marfan's when I was about 22. Up until recently Marfan's hasn't really impacted all that negatively on my life. I have extreme hypermobility of my joints and have had reconstructive surgery on one of my hands. That said, one morning in June as I was getting ready for work, I had an extreme pain behind my right eye and numbness down my right side, I went to lie down on the bed and realized I could not walk in a straight line, I veered significantly t...

Can you explain what VAT surgery is please?

My husband had this problem and he had 20 spontaneous pneumothoracies before they operated. They did a double thoracotomy and removed the plueral sac from each lung and basically stuck his lungs to the chest wall. Since that he has had no more incidents- the doctors say that it is impossible now.

The surgery took place 6 years ago and he has had no further lung trouble.

I hope this helps!...

Hi,

I don't know if anyone has had a similar experience to mine or has any insight to offer on my dilemma. I've been having multiple spontaneous pneumos on both lungs even though I had VATS surgery for both in the last few years. I've heard different theories on why these pneumos occur, such as when the barometric pressure changes suddenly it can affect the pressure inside the lungs, which I can't really do anything about. I've noticed it come on when I exert myself physically and I get tired, or when I ...

Hi everybody,

My son, 5 1/2 years old, has been diagnosed with Marfan Syndrom 2 years ago. Nobody in my (and my husband's) family has this syndrom, so I was shocked to find out about my son's problems. The additional difficulties we were facing in that time (and now too) were the problems with the English, because we'd immigrated to Canada 6 months before first problem occur. Thank's God, we've met excellent eye doctor from the beginning, because my first concern was that my son didn't see well (he had d...

Hi Eva,

My son's doctor allow him to swim as much as he wants, all the others activities suppose to be with limitation (like running and soccer). Totally prohibited karate, boxing and any other contact sport.
My son loves to swim, he is very good runner, but I'm not so happy about his good running skills, because some times he's complaining about heart ache afterwards. Also he's a good Wii player :-) and he does all the sport stuff from there. It's not all day activities though.
Actually he does what...
